Digital family time capsules
Write a message today, for someone in your family to read later — a birthday years from now, a wedding, a milestone you won't want to miss. Chronickel keeps it sealed until then.
What is a digital family time capsule?
A time capsule is a message — with optional photo attachments — sealed until a future date you choose. You address it to specific people in your family space. The core guarantee: locked content is never fetchable by anyone, including the family space owner, until the unlock date arrives. Only the capsule's creator can always read it; a recipient can read it once it unlocks; everyone else only ever sees the sealed placeholder — its title, its creator, and its unlock date, nothing more.
Common uses
A letter to a child to open on a future birthday. A message for a couple to read on an anniversary. Reflections you want a grandchild to have once they're older. Any moment you'd rather hand to the future than to right now.
How it works
- Write your message and, if you like, attach photos.
- Choose which family members it's addressed to.
- Set the date it should unlock.
- It stays sealed until then — you can still edit or add attachments yourself before it unlocks, since editing is limited to the capsule's creator, before unlock only.
Are Chronickel Time Capsules free?
Yes — time capsules are available on every Chronickel plan, including the free plan. There's no paid tier required to create or receive one.
Good to know
Attachments follow the same upload rules as story photos. When you export your family archive, unlocked capsules are included in full; locked ones are listed by title and unlock date only — never their contents. If you'd like somewhere private to store sensitive documents rather than a sealed message, that's what the Vault is for.
